Speaking at a consultation "Towards Inclusive Democracy: Civil Society's Response to Common Minimum Programme" in the capital, Mani Shankar Aiyar said, "The newly formed Panchayati Raj ministry needs activists, campaigners, academicians to analyse and collaborate to strengthen participatory governance. A strong system of local governance can be the answer to many ills ailing our nation."

The meet brought together and initiated a process of interaction between representatives of the state and civil society and articulated development sector's response to the Common Minimum Programme (CMP).

To make the consultation process as broad based as possible and to ensure that there is a civil society alliance in place to oversee the implementation of the CMP, the participants called for all voluntary organisations to come together and collectively ensure inclusive and responsive democracy.

To begin with, the people's forum has decided to prepare an analysis of the development work being done in 100 days of the United Progressive Alliance regime. Also, a social audit after a year of the functioning of the government will be done.
