Mumbai police raid bars; 90 held

Mumbai Police raided two liquor bars in eastern Mumbai on Friday.

The raids were conducted by joint commissioner of police (Law & Order), Arup Patnaik, along with DCPs Sanjay Aparanti and Manoj Lohia.

During raids late on Thursday night at the bars at eastern suburb Chembur and in suburban Tilaknagar, it was found that the girls were indulging in obscene activity and performing dance violating the new amendment in the Bombay Police Act that prohibits bar dancing, police added.

Thirty-four customers, 34 bar dancers and 22 hotel employees were arrested in the raid in 'Commondo' bar at Chembur while at least a dozen person have been arrested from 'Natraj' bar at Tilaknagar.

The arrested persons have been charged with offences under Bombay Police Act and relevant sections of IPC for obscenity. They will be produced in court later in the day.
