The award instituted this year is specifically to recognise outstanding contributions by tourism industry professionals or organisations going beyond the call of duty.

“The employees of these hotels had demonstrated exemplary courage in helping the guests during the 26/11 attacks on their hotels. They had gone beyond the realm of duty during the crisis,” Union Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said during the National Tourism Awards function.

The ministry presents awards to various segments of the travel and tourism industry every year with an aim to promote tourism.

These awards are presented to state governments, classified hotels, heritage hotels, travel agents, tour operators, individuals and other organisations involved with the tourism industry.

Besides the ministry has also instituted awards in emerging sectors such as cruise, responsible, accessible tourism and golf which are increasingly becoming popular.

There were total 54 awards in various categories presented this year.
