The offence was registered at the end of an ACB inquiry against Nayak spanning over nearly two years.

As part of the inquiry procedure a search was carried out at Nayak's residence in suburban Kandivili on Saturday.

ACB sources said Nayak, a sub-inspector attached to Kandivili police station, was likely to be arrested on Sunday, but refused to elaborate further.

Nayak shot into fame for killing more than 50 persons of underworld gang in separate encounters during his posting in Mumbai Crime Branch. He was shunted out of Crime Branch last year following the allegation of disproportionate wealth.
