The plan to kill Sheena Bora was orchestrated six or seven days before she was allegedly strangulated in an Opel Astra driven by Indrani Mukerjea’s driver Shyamwar Rai on April 24, 2012. Police sources said both Indrani and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna were also in the car when Sheena was murdered.

The police are in the process of scanning phone calls and emails between Indrani and Sanjeev to piece together details of the murder plot. A police source said on the day of the murder, Indrani’s husband Peter Mukerjea was in London with his adopted daughter Vidhie — Indrani and Sanjeev’s biological daughter — and had no knowledge of the plot.

With Peter being in London, the source said, it was easy for Indrani to carry out a reconnaissance on April 23 to determine where they would dispose off Sheena’s body. Investigators told HT that several calls between Indrani and Sanjeev from April 23 to April 25, when he went back to Kolkata, are being scanned.

The source said police believe it was Indrani who roped in Sanjeev and Shyamwar Rai, but will question Sanjeev to get his side of the story. The police also believe it was Indrani who used Sheena’s phone to send a break-up SMS to her boyfriend Rahul, Indrani’s stepson. She also got a colleague of Sheena to send a resignation letter to her employers on her behalf and to cancel her tenancy agreement with her landlord, the source added.
