Several young British Muslims have gone missing after travelling from here to Syria in recent months and they could be planning suicide attacks from there, according to a communication to the intelligence here from the Israeli security agencies. Three have been identified, being hidden in the Gaza strip by terrorist groups.

A diplomatic source said that these young militants would be utilised for attacks in Iraq, but as some are of Pak-origin, India could at some stage become a target, specially if relations between it and Pakistan become tense once again.

This fear is reinforced by the fact that the documents found with the militants in Syria were printed by an extremist group in Midlands. It urges young Muslims to become suicide bombers. Most anti-India Kashmir lobbies and the radical groups that collected funds and recruited young men for terror in Chechnya, Bosnia and Kashmir had roots in the Midlands.

The fear is also being expressed by British security services that radical clerics are changing their tactics and are now targeting Muslim converts for recruitment. A meeting of six such converts was recently held in Luton. Significantly, it is from Luton that four young men had gone to Afghanistan to help the Taliban. About 10,000 have converted to Islam in the last 18 months. It is believed that only a small number among them have been sought out by radical groups. The security services are particularly concerned about the Al-Muhajiroun outfit.
