The protest was staged at the busy Lahurabir crossing from.Organised by the NGO Human Welfare Association, the protest was held to condemn the Varanasi terror acts and also to condemn the failure of governments in checking such acts.

Raising slogans like ‘terrorists cannot break our unity’ , ‘aatankwad roko, samaj bachav’, ‘hamai aatankwadi alag nahi kar sakta’, ‘bomb visfot band karo, bachoo ka bavish bachav’, the protesters demanded immediate uncovering of the faces behind the blasts.

“We do not want the terrorists’ designs to succeed,” Dr Rajnikant, head of the NGO, said.“We want Hindus and Muslims to condemn terrror acts and that’s the reason why we have staged a dharna”, Naushaba, a Muslim lady told HT, adding, “since fingers are pointed at Muslim youth and in many such terror acts their role has been established, we demand Muslim religious priests should announce fatwa against the terrorists.”

Echoing her sentiments, one Hasina Begum also demanded fatwa againt the terrorists. “Since fingers are pointed at Muslims, it is the responsibility of the Muslim religious heads to announce fatwa against the ultras”, Hasina Begum said. “We join these Muslim women in demanding fatwa against those behind the Varanasi blasts”, said Mohd Javid of Lohta, Mohd Saleem Ansari and Mohd Suleman Idris. “We will have to identify the ‘gaddars’ otherwise the coming generations will be ashamed and our history will get blackened”, said Maulana Tufail Qadri. It may be mentioned that on March 9, two days after the twin blasts, some women volunteers of an NGO Vishal Bharat Sansthan took out a peace march against the ultras.
