Date of Birth: 17 April 1972, Kandy

ODI Debut: Against India at Colombo in 1993/94

Without David Beckham, one can still feel that England might do well, but without the spin wizard Muralitharan, you fear for Sri Lanka’s cricket future.

He is as good as any spinner in the history of the game. He can leave batsmen rubbibing their eyes in sheer disbelief with his variations.

He can mesmerize any batting line-up and is capable of turning the match on its head. Murali gets prodigous turn on any given surface, more than leg-spinners because he uses his wrists which supplements the turn that his fingers impart to the ball.

He is a proven and consistent match-winner for Sri Lanka for quite a while now. Besides his bowling abilities, he is a brilliant fielder, blessed with quick reflexes and speed that is an added bonus.
