Mystery over deaths of minors in Delhi

Barely 11 days after they reached the national capital to work as domestic helps, Arti Kumari, 13, from Khunti district and Seema Kumari (names changed), 14, from Ranchi district ended up dead – one in Safdarjung Hospital and the other on the way to her native village.
What’s more, the traffickers carrying the critically ill Arti to her native village even buried her on the way. The body was exhumed for postmortem in Torpa on Tuesday. The girls were allegedly trafficked to Delhi by one Chandmuni, 32, on April 11.
The matter came to light after Delhi-based NGO Shaktivahini and Jharkhand’s Diya Seva Sansthan took up the matter with the NCPCR. Shaktivahini had registered a police complaint at Malviya Nagar.
“Marks on Arti’s body indicate sexual assault,” said Baijnath Kumar, member, Diya Seva Sansthan.
But the police countered the view. “No foul play has been suspected yet. It won’t be fair to comment on the reason of death until the post-mortem report is out,” said Anurag Gupta, IG, CID, Jharkhand.
