A Pall of gloom descended on Allahabad University campus following the mysterious death of Professor Anwar Ali Siddiqui of the Commerce Department here on Wednesday.

The professor who reportedly succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital had a bullet stuck in his head.
Though sources said, the Professor committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed revolver and also left a suicide note but it cannot be taken for granted that he took his own life until suicide is established through inquiry and forensic investigation.
It is yet to be established that the suicide note was in the professor's own
handwriting.
Then finger prints on the pistol, in case the same has not been disturbed, would also go a long way in establishing whether the professor committed suicide or not.
On the other hand according to grapevine doing rounds in Kareli the professor was murdered due to family rivalry. He had two wives.
He had married for the second time after nullifying the first marriage.
Meanwhile, sources said, the Professor was suffering from bone TB for the past 15 years and was quite frustrated as long and continued treatment had failed to bring any relief from his suffering. AU campus plunged into gloom after the news of the professor's mysterious death. A condolence meeting was hurriedly convened to mourn the tragic loss. It was attended by the VC, teachers, employees and officers of the university.
Said to be a bright student in his days in the same university, the professor had passed his B Com in the year 1976 and M Com in 1978. Later he did his M Phil in the year 1987 before becoming a lecturer in the commerce faculty.
