Nagpur: Harassed by man 20-yr-old girl commits suicide

In yet another incident that would put civil society and lawmakers to shame after the death of Delhi gangrape victim, a 20-year-old girl, upset over constant eve-teasing, committed suicide at her residence in Akola, some 250 kms from Nagpur in western Vidarbha on Monday evening.
According to reports, the victim was constantly harassed by the accused Chandrakant Borkar (35), an auto dealer who used to pass indecent remarks whenever the girl used to go for tuition. Fed up with the harassment, the girl even narrated her plight to her father, Ramesh, who is an auto driver and resides in Bhaghirathwada area in Akola.
Ramesh then approached Chandrakant and urged him to stop harassing his daughter. However, instead of defusing the matter, Ramesh’s request only aggravated the situation and Chandrakant threatened the girl with dire consequences. He even threatened to kill her brother if she dared to tell it to her father and anyone else.
After returning home from her tuition class at around 4.30 pm on Monday, she bolted the room from inside and ended her life by hanging herself from the fan. She left a suicide note in which she narrated how she was constantly harassed by Chandrakant.
The victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the local police and accused Chandrakant of eve-teasing the girl forced her to take the extreme step.
Dadarao Sapre of June Shahar police station of Akola informed that an FIR has been registered against Chandrakant. He is absconding after the incident.
In another incident, a 12-year old girl from Hari File area in neighbouring Buldhana district was raped by a middle-aged person when she went to answer nature’s call on Sunday morning. The accused, Sheikh Hasan Sheikh (40) of the same locality, lured the girl with Rs 20 and took her to a secluded place and raped her. She fell unconscious and the accused dumped her near Jiya Colony.
In Nagpur, tension prevailed in busy Cotton Market area on Tuesday morning, after a Chhattisgarhi woman was molested at knife-point by four-five persons in front of several persons.
A crowd of around 200 women gathered at Ganeshpeth police station when the news spread like wildfire in the area and they demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. No arrests were made so far in this connection.
