Waters of river Narmada would reach the arid Kutch district on May 18 and 165 villages will get drinking water from the river before the advent of monsoon, official sources here on Wednesday.

Health Minister and state government spokesman I K Jadeja told reporters after a cabinet meeting that a special programme to +welcome+ the Narmada waters has been organised in the district.

Jadeja said the state government has decided to supply Narmada waters to 35 villages in the first phase as also to Rapar and Gandhidham towns of the district from May 18.

Jadeja said Narmada water will be supplied to Kutch through the 58 kilometre long Maliya-Bhachau pipeline from the Maliya canal.
