Naxals loot NMDC explosives store

ABOUT 40 heavily armed Naxalites and some supporter villagers, late tonight attacked an NMDC (National Minerals Development Corporation) explosives store near iron mines on the outskirts of Bailadillah town of Dantewada district, Bastar, and escaped after looting the explosives.

ABOUT 40 heavily armed Naxalites and some supporter villagers, late tonight attacked an NMDC (National Minerals Development Corporation) explosives store near iron mines on the outskirts of Bailadillah town of Dantewada district, Bastar, and escaped after looting the explosives.

At least 16 jawans of the CISF (Central India Security Force) and the NMDC staff of about 40 were surrounded in the attack. The Naxalites snapped communication links. At least four CISF personnel were reported injured, news reaching here said.

Police sources here said that the encounter between the CISF personnel and the Naxalites continued for well over two hours at the spot where explosives were also stored. Bailadillah has a population of about 50,000.

The sources said that security forces were rushed from Dantewada to the troubles spot to help the beleaguered CISF personnel and the NMDC staff and beat back the Naxalites.

Meanwhile, last night, two villagers were killed and 25 were injured, seven of them seriously, during another Naxalite attack in Dantewada district’s Cherakdondi village, police said today.
