The 25-lakh strong Nayak community in Rajasthan was a neglected lot in society, its state president Bhanwar Lal told a press conference here.
Nayak tribals, who lived and behaved like heroes in the history, were now ‘neglected and a low profile’ community under the Scheduled Caste category, he said. Lal further added that they were not getting even the minimum benefits of the job reservation with powerful communities going away with most of the benefits.
Demanding shifting of Nayak tribals from the SC to ST category, he said the Nayaks needed a political patronage by any strong party regardless of the BJP or the Congress.
This tribe should be on par with the Garasia and Bheel castes in the ST category, he demanded. He blamed that a few NGOs were misusing the people of this caste for their vested interests, but not even a one per cent of these were getting any importance in society which is dominated by castes like Jats, Rajputs and Meena.
