A Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) unit leader was arrested on Tuesday for forging documents to take possession of a flat in Malad. The police said the accused would scare away the owners with his ferocious dogs whenever they would go to him, asking to vacate it.

The accused, Amjad Redkar (25), is secretary of the minority cell (North Mumbai). Vikas Pimpade, a developer, said he had rented his flat to Redkar in 2007.

The police said Arun Rokade, a college lab assistant, had booked the flat. “When Pimpade asked him to vacate it, Redkar produced forged documents claiming he had bought it,” said Senior Inspector J Hargude. Rokade denied selling the flat.

“Whenever the two told Redkar to vacate the flat, he would threaten to let his dogs loose on them,” said Hargude.
