Need to update Ayurvedic medicine

Prof Singh was delivering the key note address on ‘Sangyaharan Day’ at Shalya Shalakya Department, Ayurveda Faculty (IMS-BHU) here at Sushruta Seminar Hall in Sir Sunderlal Hospital. The programme was organised in collaboration with the Association of Anaesthetics of Indian Medicine.
Prof. Gajendra Singh said that now-a-days modern medicine was being updated whereas traditional Ayurvedic medicines were becoming ancient and so it was the need of the hour to make Ayurvedic medicines more modern through intensive research work.Prof. Singh outlined the importance of the basic principles and said that the medical practitioners should know the basic principles before going in for practice.
He said that the Ayurvedic system of medicine was based on scientific research and Ayurvedic practitioners and scholars needed to prove this in the contemporary scenario. He said Ayurvedic practitioners like Sushruta knew a lot more about medical science than the scientists of today.
He added that Sushruta was known to have performed a number of surgeries in this ancient city of Kashi centuries ago. He said that Sushruta was the first person in the history of medical science who performed operation to remove renal stone.
Medical Superintendent of SS Hospital, Prof. S. Churamani Gopal was the guest of honour on the occasion. Earlier, the organising secretary of the programme, Dr. KK Pandey welcomed the guests whereas Dr. DN Pande and Prof. M. Sahu delivered the introductory address.
Senior lecturer at Shalya Shalakya Department, Dr. Laxman Singh distributed certificates among the participants of the week-long workshop on ‘shart Sutra’. The patron of the Association of Anaesthetics of Indian Medicine and the Dean of the Ayurveda Faculty also addressed the gathering.
Advocate at Allahabad High Court and Outstanding Counsel of Central Council of Indian Medicine, Jeevan Prakash Sharma delivered a lecture on ‘Integrated Practice and Country Law’. Dr. Hari Om Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
