New attires, sweets mark Gujarati New Year

Fresh from on Diwali celebrations, denizens burst crackers welcoming the New Year in the wee hours. The festivities are expected to continue for the next four days, after which shops and business will re-open on Nov 15 which is celebrated as Labh Pancham.

Crackers, sweets and new attire marked New Year celebrations in Gujarat where people were seen thronging temples in the morning to offer prayers on Saturday morning.

Fresh from on Friday's Diwali celebrations, denizens of this city burst crackers welcoming the New Year in the wee hours.

People were seen dressed in new attire, visiting temples in their neighbourhood, meeting friends and relatives and distributed sweets.

Streets in the city remained largely deserted as all shops and business establishments remained closed for the festivities.

The festivities are expected to continue for the next four days, after which shops and business will re-open on November 15 which is celebrated as Labh Pancham.
