NEWLY APPOINTED Vice Chancellor of Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture and Technology University (CSA) Dr Vinod Kumar Suri today said that his first priority as the head of the university would be to make it financially viable and globally known for its significant contribution to the development of agriculture.

Dr Suri who took over the charge in the forenoon on Monday told Hindustan Times that to achieve his two-point target he would first put a check upon the unproductive expenditures of the university and streamline the priorities of the teachers, students and non-teaching employees so that a judicious action plan could be formulated for strengthening the university team.
He said fiscal assistance from the government was very much needed for the bare subsistence of the university, but I would try to explore the possibilities of raising the university income through consultancy and by charging for every product of the university. Free supply of university products for any reason whatsoever may not be possible in the existing financial situation.
He said, “one of the prime duties of the vice-chancellors was to generate money and I would not shirk from this responsibility.
At present, I have in my mind to raise the production of quality seeds of different crops at the university farms as its sale could fetch handsome amount to meet the university expenditures. Besides, the sale of hybrid mushroom seeds and bio-fertilizers could also help in adding to the university coffer. But before materialising any innovative idea I would prefer to take the university team members in utmost confidence.”
To a question, he said, nowhere in the world the financial position of the universities was satisfactory. Even in the highly developed countries the universities had to generate their own resources to have a sound financial position. I would also follow the fund generation principles, he said. He said there was nothing impossible in the world if the determination was there to achieve the impossible. He hoped that with the cooperation of his team he would be able to achieve excellence for the university.
He further said that his main thrust would be on the research promotion. He said that his efforts would be to identify the agencies which provided funds for research projects so that they could be tapped and revenue could be earned from them. Later after joining the office the Vice-Chancellor held a meeting of the teachers and the administrative officers and explained them the work style they should adopt to achieve the high goals of the university amidst odd situations without being frustrated.
