His predecessor may have failed to do what he is up to, Singh in a telephonic interview Wednesday said: “Within a week of the swearing-in ceremony, garbage would be lifted from the lanes, bylanes and roads of this religious city.”

It may be mentioned it is the dirt and garbage that greets tourists in Varanasi as the city lacked civic sense and a vast section of its population feels comfortable when around the garbage dumps.

“You will see a change in the city within seven days of my assuming charge as Mayor of Varanasi”, Singh said, adding, he would be taking a harsh step when it comes to respecting religious sentiments of the people.

“I have decided to completely ban operation of meat sellers in the specific areas close to Vishwanath Temple”, he informed, adding, “A resolution will be passed in this connection when the newly constituted Nagar Nigam is in session.”

However, this Kaushlender Singh has a long-term also. “I would ensure BJP wins all the assembly seats in the upcoming assembly election due early next year”, the he said, adding, “the two assembly seats out of seven which are currently held by the ruling Samajwadi Party would also land up in the lap of BJP.”
