FOR THE incharge of a police station in the State there's a shot in the arm. But for the SSPs/SPs there's a minor set back. For, till now in the event of a communal/caste clash or sensational crime the latter had been usually penalising the former holding them responsible for the incident.

For, till now in the event of a communal/caste clash or sensational crime the latter had been usually penalising the former holding them responsible for the incident.
But now the situation has changed drastically. The super cop--Director General of Police--has come to the rescue of station officers.
In a circular to all the district headquarters he has directed all SPs/SSPs to abstain from taking any instant action against a station officer in such cases.
Instead he has directed the DIGs to step in the shoes of the SSPs/SPs.
In the event of such incidents the DIGs will send their report to the State Government after one week of the incident.
During the week the DIG concerned will look into four aspects behind the incident and then forward his report to the government.
The first aspect will involve going through the conduct and role of the local police and whether the incident took place because of the laxity of the concerning police station. The second and the third aspect will involve the role of the intelligence agencies and whether the incident took place due to their laxity.
Lastly, efforts on the part of the police station in containing the incident, after it sparked off, will also be taken into consideration.
