NGOs drive against violence

SEVERAL VOLUNTARY organisations working in the field of women’s rights across the State have joined in the form of a network to undertake a 16-day campaign on violence against women. The campaign would be undertaken in 28 districts between November 25 and December 10.
The campaign is being undertaken with the support of ActionAid. The campaign would be launched simultaneously in all 28 districts on November 25 with information, education and communication of distributing pamphlets, putting up banners and writing graffiti.
Also from this day, a ribbon campaign, wherein each of the campaigners would be pinning ribbon on ten others, talk about the issue of violence against women and urge the other one to repeat the same procedure with ten others, would be taken up.
On November 26 there would be screening of short films on the issue of violence against women, on November 27 information stalls would be put up at important points, on November 28 – debate competitions would be held, on November 29 – symposium on the issue would be held, on November 30 – poster exhibition
would be put up, on December 1 – information stalls would again be put up, on December 2 – seminar would be held, on December 4, a signature campaign would be launched, on December 5 a discussion session would be held and the week would conclude with a mega torch rally in Bhopal on December 10.
The representatives of various partner networks, while addressing a press conference today, said that these 16 days have been selected for the campaign keeping in view number of important events that occurred during this period including Violence Against Women Protest Day on November 25, World AIDS Day on December 1, Bhopal Gas Tragedy Anniversary on December 3, and Human Rights Day on December 10.
The aim is to reach all sections of the society with an objective to root out the social reasons of violence against women and establish a violence free society.
