NHPC to hit capital market

National Hydrolectric Power Corporation said on Thursday that it was exploring the possibility of an Initial Public Offer.

"Power Ministry has told us to expedite the process for an IPO," NHPC chairman and Managing Director SK Garg told reporters.

He, however, did not give any timeframe for the public offer.

NHPC posted a net profit 701 crore in 2005-06 as against 685 crore in the previous fiscal.

The company achieved a turnover of Rs 1,834 crore in 2005-06 compared to 1,668 crore in previous fiscal.
