NINE CASES have been registered by the police in connection with communal violence and arson that occurred in the City on Monday and 171 persons have been arrested so far, SP Anshuman Yadav said here on Tuesday.
However, police have failed to arrest either Neelu or Munna Mohammad, who had clashed near Narsingh Bazaar crossing over eve-teasing that led to communal tension in the City. SP Yadav said they have arrested Munna Mohammad’s brother, who was also involved in beating up Neelu.
He said of the 171 arrested, some were taken into custody for violating curfew orders. He said the police are minutely going through the video-footage to identify those responsible for stone pelting.
He said searches were conducted in a number of places but only seven knifes were recovered. At Gafur Chawl ki Bajaria, falling under Sadar Bazaar police station, police arrested 37 persons and registered cases under Section 147, 148, 427, 336 and 332 of the IPC.
According to police sources, arrests were made last night after shots were fired at the police by a mob that had gathered in the area. Thereafter, these people hid inside houses in the locality. Police searched the houses and arrested 25 persons from one of them. The remaining were arrested from the other houses.
Another case of rioting, stone pelting and arson was registered against 10 persons at Kamathipura at around 9 pm by the Sadar Bazaar police station. Two other cases were registered by Pandhrinath police station.
One of the incidents relates to stone pelting, rioting and arson in which cases under Sections 147, 148, 332 and 336 of the IPC were slapped against 32 persons. In all the above cases, policemen filed reports.
A case under Section 307 IPC (attempted murder) was registered against Kale Khan, Jumme Khan, Firoz and another accused when they attacked Manoj (35) son of Mathu Das resident of Brahmabagh Colony.
At around 2 pm on Monday, Manoj and his friend Jagdish of Kranti Kriplani Colony were going on a motorcycle near Karavghat when they were attacked by the accused with a knife. The victims were injured and were rushed to the hospital.
Three cases of arson, rioting, and stone pelting were registered at Malharganj following communal violence at Loharpatti while another case was registered against unknown persons for burning an auto rickshaw at Malhar Paltan.
Meanwhile, another case against an unknown person was lodged for burning a motorcycle.
