To check irregularities in transfer and posting of engineers, the PWD would ensure transparency in its working. “After receiving complaints about poor construction work, a team visited Rae Bareli and Lakhimpur Kheri. Action against engineers and contractors was taken on the basis of the report submitted by the team.”

Principal secretary, Home and PWD, SK Agarwal recently accepted that honest engineers were living in fear. During a review meeting of the PWD, officers drew his attention toward pressure tactics adopted by the mafia, he said.

The mafia bid to bag contracts had an adverse impact on development of the Purvanchal region where a majority of the gangs were active, Agarwal said.
