The complainant – Ankur Gupta of third year and accused Sankalp Joshi were both summoned by the disciplinary committee chaired by head of orthopaedics department Dr Nirbhay Srivastava.

Sources said efforts were made for a compromise between the two students, but Ankur Gupta stood his ground regarding the complaint and gave a written representation demanding strict action against Joshi. Joshi reportedly denied assaulting Gupta. Following the written memorandum, the inquiry committee will conduct a probe into the matter and seek versions of the other persons present at the scene of the alleged assault. The meeting will continue on Wednesday.

GMC Dean Dr M K Saraswat said proceedings of the disciplinary committee have begun but he was yet to get the report. Meanwhile, Ankur Gupta has reportedly decided to boycott future meetings of the disciplinary committee.

Joshi reportedly hit Gupta on the GMC porch on December 26 and the latter suffered injuries including in his private parts. Gupta’s parents reportedly tried to meet the college authorities but could not. The Dean meanwhile referred the matter to the disciplinary committee. The incident is being viewed as another fallout of continuing rivalry between hostellers and day scholar students.
