No place in team for the hero of my heart! Sigh

Yuvraj Singh has many takers, but not just the men who call the shots for Team India.

I was pushed into a world of pain and hurt when he was not picked in the team for the 2015 World Cup. Till the last minute, I harboured hopes that he would be there. Miracles do happen, don't they?

A miracle certainly happened in 2011, when Yuvi was the star of the World Cup at home.

These days, he reminds me of Icarus, the Greek mythological character who flew too close to the sun with wax wings. I don't know what the wax wings are in Yuvi's case, but I can't get Icarus out of my mind when thinking about the southpaw.

Probably, it is the player's fall after the 2011 World Cup.

He was unwell, but did not know and had played the tournament.

He beat cancer, but not the vagaries of cricketing form. And, that is sad because few match his joy and passion, which is so infectious.

Fit and raring to go, he did not make the cut. He did not even make the shortlist of 30 which was pruned to 15 before Team India flew to Australia.

His achievements border on the countless and outrageous. Is he the most deserving player to have not been included in the World Cup 2015 team? In my opinion, yes.

I cannot condemn the choices made by our selectors, but Yuvi not being there rankles.

The recent Rs 16 crore whopper IPL deal is scant compensation.
