Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal also visited Meraj’s house on Sunday evening. Consoling the family members of the deceased youth, he promised to give government job to one of Meraj’s sisters.
The minister also instructed the district administration authorities to ensure justice be meted out to the bereaved family. He also praised the locals for helping to maintain harmony.
Kotwali circle officer Rakesh Jolly informed that three teams, headed by SO Pheel Khana Gopi Chandra, SO Collectorganj CD Gaur and SO Kotwali R K Parashar have been constituted to conduct raids in the city to nab those responsible for Meraj’s murder.
Meanwhile, finance and taxation advisor to the chief minister Surendra Mohan Aggarwal handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family. The State government had announced the compensation on Saturday.
Samajwadi Party city president Jitendra Bahadur Singh and additional district magistrate (ADM) Abrar Ahmad accompanied Aggarwal to Meraj’s house. Aggarwal directed the ADM to initiate action against the perpetrators of the attack and subsequent communal violence. He also reiterated his promise to take responsibility for the marriage of Meraj’s three sisters and get a government job for one of them.
Despite peace prevailing at the Ram Narayan Bazaar and adjoining areas, the district administration continued to deploy heavy police contingent in the affected places as a precautionary measure.
Many shops at Patkapur area remained closed as a mark of respect to Meraj. Earlier, tempers had run high on Saturday in the aftermath of Meraj’s death. Locals held demonstration demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for the innocent boy’s death.
Relatives and well wishers continued to throng Meraj’s house at Patkapur to console the bereaved family.
