City based NGO, Janhit Manch, had written to the chief justice regarding eviction of hundreds of bar girls living as tenants in Kisan Nagar in first week of June. The court had converted the letter into a suo moto PIL.

The eviction drive was allegedy led by local Shiv Sena corporator Ram Repale. As per the newspaper reports, Repale's justification for the drive was that prostitution was rampant in this area because of the bar girls, bringing the whole locality a bad reputation.
