Notorious criminal killed in encounter

An associate of Jabar managed to speed away on the mobike on which both the criminals were going some where. Police and the SOG had laid a trap following a tip-off that Jabar Singh would be passing through the route.
On being challenged Jabar and his associate reportedly fired at the police party which returned the fire. While Jabar who was reportedly riding the pillion of the mobike fell to the police bullet his accomplice managed to slip away, police said.
The killed outlaw carried a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head and was wanted by the police since 1998 when he had run away from police custody.
Police sources said, Jabar had been nabbed in a case of murder and had been remanded to judicial custody. He had been brought to the lower court for being produced before a magistrate when he managed to wrench himself free and took to his heels. Since then police had been looking for him. There were half a dozen criminal cases against Jabar including four cases of murder.
However, police could not furnish any record of Jabar's criminal activities since he ran away from police custody.
It is suspected that Jabar had been carrying out his criminal activities in some other district and had been occasionally visiting his village in Nawabganj.
