Soon the city will witness the gathering of aspiring dancers from across the globe under one roof. They will learn the enriched dance form Kathak which is popular in North India.

Kathak Kendra in city has been bestowed with this unique opportunity to guide the foreign artistes towards mastering this classical and intricate dance form.
According to Urmila Sharma, renowned dancer and director of Kathak Kendra, the institute acquired recognition from Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) recently. "The Council handles all the matters pertaining to any kind of cultural exchanges between the nations.
The officials on their visit to the institute found it suitable to offer an opportunity to the foreign students to learn under the tutelage of the eminent teachers and gurus," she said.
According to Sharma, the institute is well-equipped with the appropriate residential facilities suited to the foreign students. "We are expecting to receive applications from all the nations where kathak is very popular such as South American countries, Nigeria, Holland, etc.," she added.
The stay of the foreign students will depend on the course they choose which is variable from two to five years' period. "We are offering degrees in Prabhakar and Praveen and also specialisation courses and diploma courses which are of various durations," said Sharma.
It is to be noted that Kathak Kendra has its branches in Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow and Allahabad. "We don't know about the exact month when we will start receiving foreign students since that will be decided by the main branch at Delhi.
Besides, the number of seats meant for the foreign students is also not declared at the moment," she said.
However, Sharma who has already given various shows abroad is quite enthusiastic with the new development. "Its an honour for the institute to have gained such prestigious recognition. To my knowledge none of the art institutes in the city have managed to get it so far," said Sharma.
