A unique "lifestyle school" is coming up in Kolkata to impart lessons in sex with a curriculum that draws heavily from the famous Kamasutra.

Defending themselves against criticism, the school's promoters are saying that the "lifestyle school" would actually promote fidelity by ensuring healthy, pleasurable and satisfying sex for partners.

"Fidelity is ensured by removing boredom in the sex life of married couples," said Girdhari Joshi, chief of the sex school that is yet to receive a name.

Joshi describes the school as a "multi-faceted lifestyle provider" that would deal with sex education, counselling, therapy and the art of lovemaking.

Through the lessons from the ancient text on lovemaking Kamasutra, the school would try to impart to its students the knowledge of responsible, healthy and pleasurable sex.

"Once one finds pleasure in sex within marriage, one would not find the need to philander," Joshi said.

The school would hire the services of doctors, psychiatrists and other medical professionals to impart the lessons.

There would be three types of courses that one could take up. The first one, on the art of lovemaking, comes for a price of Rs. 2,461.

"The Kamasutra is a treasure trove of information on how to achieve pleasurable sex. The book of love would be the basic guide in this matter," Joshi said.

The second course for Rs. 3,221 is on increasing sexual satisfaction. The third course for advance learners would teach sexual anatomy, sexual physiology and sexual behaviour.

A student taking all the three courses would enjoy a discount in the fees.

Though the school, supposed to come up in an upmarket southern Kolkata neighbourhood, is yet to win the civic body's approval, Joshi said he was confident about being given a trade license.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) said it would consider awarding a trade license to the school on merit.
