THE ONGOING spar between eminent poet and Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy Chairman Bashir Badr and another renowned poet Manzar Bhopali took another turn on Friday when the latter also approached the police for lodging a complaint against Badr.

Earlier, Badr had made a complaint at the Talaiya police station that the allegedly defamatory posters against him were put up at the behest of Manzar Bhopali.

Today, Manzar reached the same police station and asked the authorities concerned to register a case of anti-national activities against Badr. In his complaint, Manzar said that he has cooperated with the police so far in the investigations into Badr’s complaint and now the police should look into his complaint as well.

He said that Badr’s complaint has caused him tremendous pain because he is not involved in the case. “It is a deliberate attempt on part of Badr to defame me,” Manzar wrote.

In his complaint, Manzar further said that Badr has made several disparaging remarks against the country, and even another poet Munawwar Rana had recently said on television that he too heard Badr cursing the country.

“Rana said that after the incident he had a row with Badr and both came close to exchanging blows,” Manzar, said citing reports in newspapers. He added further that Bashir Badr has claimed that he made no foreign trip in the last eight years, which is incorrect.

Manzar Bhopali further demanded an inquiry into Badr’s visits abroad. “A scrutiny of his passport will reveal that Badr has made several visits to foreign countries,” he added.

The application for registering a case was accepted but the Talaiya police are yet to register a case on either of the complaints.
