NRIs with British passport can apply for dual citizenship

NRIs holding UK passports can apply for dual citizenship from November 1, said the secretary of the Overseas Indians Affairs Ministry.

Non-Resident Indians holding British passports can apply for dual citizenship from the beginning of next month, a senior Indian official in charge of Overseas Indians' Affairs has said.

"As of now, the NRIs in London holding British passports can apply for dual citizenship as early as November 1," SK Krishna Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Overseas Indians Affairs said addressing a gathering of NRIs at the India House on Tuesday evening.

"We are doing everything possible to see that you get treated as full citizens in both countries," Kumar said.

He said the Third 'Pravasi Bharatiya Divas' would be held in Mumbai for three days from January 7.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the event and President APJ Abdul Kalam will present the Pravasi Divas Awards on the concluding day, he added.
