NSUI leaders Arun Hingankar (vice-president) and Rohit Joshi had announced that they would burn the effigy of the Chief Minister to protest the slapping of Section 307 of IPC against MLA Ashwin Joshi, at the Regal crossing this morning.
The police were present in full force since early morning and were keeping a hawk’s eye on all vehicles crossing the area to prevent anyone from bringing the effigy. However, the NSUI activists had hidden an effigy inside the Singapore Market. While the police were busy looking in another direction, suddenly the NSUI activists brought out the effigy from the Singapore Market and amidst shouting of slogans they started burning the effigy.
Outsmarted, the policemen milling around rushed towards the activists and snatched the effigy from them and started beating the youth who had brought the effigy.
