Odisha CM urges PM to grant Rs 1,000 crore for relief

Odisha was hit by the very severe cyclonic storm on the night of October 12. Ganjam district where the cyclone made a landfall, has been the worst affected. At least 28 persons lost their live due to the calamities, out of which seven died in floods.

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to grant an initial amount of Rs 1,000 crore for relief and restoration work for the twin tragedy of cyclone Phailin and subsequent flood in the state.

“I would request you to release an advance of Rs 1,000 crore over and above the corpus of Rs 523 crore available in the State Disaster Response Fund for the year 2013-14. This will meet our immediate requirements. A detailed report in the form of a memorandum shall be presented soon after the assessment damage,” Patnaik said in a letter to the PM.
