Officials satisfied with progress of work on bridge
THE PROCESS of installing a net and hangers as part of the renovation work on the Malviya Bridge continued here on Friday. The Uttar Pradesh Bridge Corporation is likely to complete the installation of the net on four extension points on the bridge on Saturday. Big machines will be brought later for the repair work with the consent of the district administration.

Meanwhile, the Northern Railway ensured blocking of the train movement on the bridge for two hours from 12.35 pm to 2.35 pm on Friday. Traffic restrictions have been imposed for the smooth progress of renovation work on the bridge.
It may be mentioned that the UP Bridge Corporation is in the process of installing a net to cover all the joints on Malviya bridge to ensure that during the renovation, no repair material falls on the railway track situated beneath the road of Malviya bridge.
Deputy project manager RP Singh said the work was satisfactory. However, he expressed displeasure over the blocking of rail traffic on the bridge for only two hours.
Singh said renovation work was progressing well but it would have been better had the Northern Railway imposed the blocking of trains for at least six to eight hours daily.
A team of engineers of Northern Railway is also monitoring the progress of UP Bridge Corporation work. They also expressed satisfaction over the work progress.
To recall, the movement of heavy and commercial vehicles had been restricted on Malviya Bridge since May 11, 2002 in the wake of the poor condition of the bridge.
