Omar to be J&K's 11th and yongest CM

Omar Abdullah will become the state's 11th and youngest CM, snatching the distinction from his father, when he takes over the reins of Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu on Tuesday at the age of 38 years.

Omar Abdullah will become the state's 11th and youngest Chief Minister, snatching the distinction from his father, when he takes over the reins of Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu on Tuesday at the age of 38 years.

All the former chief ministers of the state including G M Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim, Sheikh Abdullah, G M Shah, Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Ghulam Nabi Azad were elder to him, officials sources said in Jammu.

Of these chief ministers, Omar's father Farooq and his grandfather Sheikh Abdullah served more than one term in
office.

The distinction was earlier held by Farooq Abdullah who was the youngest chief minister of the state when he took over the reins of the state for the first time at the age of 46 years on 21st October 1982.

His grandfather Sheikh Abdullah became chief minister at the age of 69 years but prior to it he was prime minister of the state at the age of 41.

Similarly, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Azad became chief ministers at the age of 66 and 56 years respectively while Sadiq, Mir Qasim and Shah assumed the top office after they were past 55 years of age.
