MADHYA PRADESH won matches both in the boys’ and girls’ categories in the 16th national junior throwball championship that got underway in the City today.

Twenty teams of the boys and 18 of girls are participating in the championship. The championship being played on league-cum-knock out basis saw Madhya Pradesh and Delhi teams registered victories on the first day. While boys’ team of Madhya Pradesh defeated Rajasthan by 15-1 and 15-3 in straight sets, Uttranchal by 15-8 and 15-5 and Orissa by 15-1 and 15-2, girls’ team was also not far behind.

Girls’ team of Madhya Pradesh defeated Chandigarh by 15-3, 15-4 and 15-5 followed by another victory against Kerala by 15-1, 15-4.

Boys and girls of Delhi also performed well in their matches on the first day. They won all their matches in outings of the first days.

Besides, boys of Haryana defeated Himachal Pradesh by 15-5 and 15-6, Orissa boys defeated Rajasthan by 15-8 and 15-9, Tamil Nadu boys overcame challenge from their Maharashtra counterparts 15-6 and 15-3 and Uttar Pradesh team won over Maharashtra 15-10 and 15-10.

In the girls’ section, Tamil Nadu defeated Bihar 15-11 and 15-5, Punjab defeated Haryana by 15-4 and 15-4, Chhattisgarh defeated Uttar Pradesh 15-5 and 15-12 and Chandigarh girls defeated Kerala girls 15-7 and 15-8.

Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by former minister and president of Throwball Association of India Bala Bachchan. Association secretary Dr Kamal Goswami presided over the inaugural function.
