The seven-day Onam tourism celebration begins in Kottayam from September 3 to 9. The district administration, in association with the district tourism promotion council, would organise various cultural programmes during the celebration, the collector Raju Narayana Swamy said today.
Speaking to reporters at the Collector's chamber today, he said the cultural programmes have been organised with a view to maintain traditional glory.
The programmes include Theyyam, Kuthiyottam, Martial Arts, Padayani, Chakyarkoothu, Margomkali, Vanchipattu, and Ottamthullal, besides competition on Onapattu, Pookalam and Thiruvathirakali.
The function is scheduled to be inaugurated by tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at police parade ground here on September 3.
The total expense is estimated about Rs 10 lakh, which will be raised through sponsors.
