One army, one force

Apropos of the editorial It?s an Indian army (February 13) players like Irfan Pathan, Mohd. Kaif or Zaheer Khan did not enter the national cricket team because of some minority quota but purely on the basis of merit and their ability to perform.

Apropos of the editorial It’s an Indian army (February 13) players like Irfan Pathan, Mohd. Kaif or Zaheer Khan did not enter the national cricket team because of some minority quota but purely on the basis of merit and their ability to perform. Recruitment parameters in the armed forces, too, should never be diluted to accommodate persons speaking a particular language or following a particular faith.

The Congress is playing a devious communal game. I’m surprised that a former judge of the Delhi High Court too is involved in this. All nationalist forces should collectively thwart this attempt to divide the army on communal lines.

Left, take a turn

Apropos of Slipping on secularism? (February 14), it is high time the Left realised that apart from secularism, the country also needs development. Liberalisation is necessary, keeping the changing world scenario in mind. It should encourage such policies.

Monumental disaster

This refers to Preserve the future (February 13). There are many illegal constructions around the Qutub Minar. Why have those, who claim to protect our heritage and object to an elevated Metro here, said nothing about these?

Surprisingly, even the ASI has done nothing to maintain the aesthetics of the area. But, all of a sudden, it has decided that the Qutub Minar needs to be protected from the Metro. This is unfair.

Experts tell us that the Metro will not distort the view of the Qutub Minar. So then, is it right to waste crore by taking the Metro underground? Shouldn’t the money be, instead, diverted for development tasks?

Don’t be the enemy

This refers to Not another Iraq (February 13). Every country has the right to protect its sovereignty. Our country should not succumb to the bullying tactics of the US and became a partner in its crime against Iran.
