One militant was killed and another got injured while the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Kupwara, 100 km north of Srinagar on Friday.

The army spokesman said the troops, having specific information from the intelligence agencies, thwarted the militants' attempts in the woods.

"The force started firing from the post immediately after watching the militants' movement. It killed one terrorist, while the other two managed to flee through the dense forest. However, one also got injured," added the spokesman.

Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, Chinar Corps Commander, while praising the troops for their high degree of alertness said, "The operation in Gurez Sector is the result of synergy between different security apparatus."

The Army on Friday said its troops deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez Sector of Kupwara foiled a major attempt of infiltration by the militants. One militant was killed another injured in the army action.

According to the army spokesman, the troops working on specific information from intelligence agencies regarding terrorists attempt to infiltrate in Gurez Sector of Kupwara, 100 km north of Srinagar, detected movement in the forest area on this side of the LoC on Friday.

"The terrorists were immediately engaged by firing from the post located along the fence. The fire was very effective and resulted in the elimination of one terrorist, while the remaining two managed to escape under the cover of thick foliage. However, one terrorist was observed to be injured," said an army spokesman.

One AK 47 and two rucksucks were recovered from the site.

Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, the Chinar Corps Commander, commended the troops for their high degree of alertness. "The operation in Gurez Sector was a mark of synergy between different security apparatus," said Singh.
