Online counselling under way despite hiccups

OVER FOUR hundred candidates who had qualified the CPMT-06, turned up at the counselling centre on GSVM Medical College premises on Wednesday. This is for the first time that on-line counselling is being held to allocate seats in eight medical and dental colleges in the State, besides private medical colleges. Those who did not rehearse for the on-line off campus counselling confronted some difficulties in handling the computer and clicking the mouse button on the desired icons.

This is for the first time that on-line counselling is being held to allocate seats in eight medical and dental colleges in the State, besides private medical colleges.

Those who did not rehearse for the on-line off campus counselling confronted some difficulties in handling the computer and clicking the mouse button on the desired icons.

Moreover, students were also dissatisfied because despite entering their choices of medical colleges, they could not get the status of seats in the medical college they had opted for. However, this time in the on-line counseling, there is provision that on day one students will feed their options in the counseling website and two hours after the first day’s counselling is over, allocations of seats in medical colleges will be available on the website www.upcpmt.nic.in.

“Students can see their fate on the internet,” said IB Jain, deputy in-charge of CPMT-06 counselling in the city.

Meanwhile, students who appeared in the on-line counselling were heard complaining of lack of transparency in allotment of seats through this mode of counselling. Ravi Pandey who has secured 217th rank in the State told Hindustan Times after filling up his options, “Unlike manual counselling when students could see the available and filled seats on the projector screen, this time even after appearing in the counselling it is not known to me in which medical college I am going to pursue my MBBS education.”

Another student Vijayata Singh, who secured 525th rank, said, “I have opted for Meerut, then Jhansi and after these two choices I chose all other options as the status of seats in government medical colleges was not known to me at the time of counselling.”

For the convenience of the aspirants, GSVM Medical College administration has made prompt arrangements. Several computers were installed in the counselling room with connectivity to other on-line counselling centres in the State.

However, 100 MBBS seats in Safai brought some relief to those students whose ranks were low. Firoz Ahmed, with 758th rank in CPMT-06 was optimistic of getting MBBS course despite having a low rank. “I am positive to get MBBS course either at Jhansi, Gorakhpur or in Safai, but a lot depends on how many students with higher ranks opt out of government medical colleges seats.”

Whatever be the mode of counseling, everyone’s first choice was KGMU Lucknow, then GSVM Kanpur and so on. In the on-line counseling, students were provided with 36 options of government and private medical colleges and irrespective of rank, most of the students were seen filling choices according to their priority.
