As soon as the proceedings for the day started, members of BJP, JKPP and JSM were on their feet, and demanded that a regional 'Duggar channel' be started immediately.
JSM member Ashwini Sharma alleged, "The channel like DD Kashmir does not cater to the needs and aspirations of the Jammu region. It is a conspiracy against the people of Jammu. Therefore, there is need for a channel in Dogri language, which is popular among the local people.
Ashwini demanded, "Bring a resolution in the house for starting a Duggar channel in this region. It is the demand of the entire Jammu province".
BJP member Jugal Kishore also supported the demand for setting up Duggar channel and said, "It is a genuine and just demand. The channel will have coverage over an area of 32,200 sq km. Dogri language is included in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Moreover, the Duggar channel will air programmes in all the regional launguages and this will not only have its viewers in Jammu and Kashmir but also in the neighbouring states of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and also in adjoining areas of Pakistan".
Raising slogans in favour of a Duggar channel, the opposition members staged walkout from the House.
Several social and political organisations of the region have been demanding a Dogri channel in the region for quite some time.
