Organisers move HC for stay on arrest

THREE ORGANISERS of the consumer fair at Meerut, which was devastated by a fire on April 10, have approached the Allahabad High Court, seeking a stay on their arrest in connection with the FIR lodged against them. The organisers Manohar and with two others, have filed a writ petition in this connection and also sought quashing of an FIR lodged against them. These writ petitions could not be taken up on Tuesday and were likely to be taken up in a day or two.

These writ petitions could not be taken up on Tuesday and were likely to be taken up in a day or two.

A case of murder and serious offences were registered against 11 police, administrative officials and organisers in connection with the Meerut fair. Cases were registered against them under sections 34, 120B (conspiracy), 302 (murder), 304A (negligence), and several others of the Indian Penal Code.

The then district magistrate Ram Krishna, ADM, City, Srish Dubey, SSP Rajiv Sabbarwal, SP City SS Yadav, Deputy MD of Electricity Board AK Jain, Civil Lines Police Station incharge RP Singh, CFO AK Chaturvedi and three organisers of the fair were named in the case.

Lawyer suffers heart attack in court, dies
SENIOR LAWYER of the district court Ramji Dwivedi suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while arguing a case in the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) R N Singh on Tuesday afternoon. He collapsed on resuming his seat. He was 65.

His colleagues and juniors rushed him to a nursing home nearby where he was declared dead. Later, lawyers assembled in the Bar and observed two-minute silence in honour of their colleague. After this, work in the lower court was postponed to Wednesday.

Kazmi to be feted today
THE BAR Association of the Board of Revenue will felicitate Advocate-
General SMA Kazmi, on the Board premises at 3.30 pm on Wednesday.

Giving this information, association secretary Bal Krishna Pandey said the programme would be presided over by judicial member SN Pandey.

Association president Harsh Narain Sharma urged lawyers to attend the programme.
