Orissa Governor Rameshwar Thakur Sunday took additional charge as governor of Andhra Pradesh following the resignation of Sushilkumar Shinde on his induction into the central council of ministers.

Chief Justice GS Sanghvi of the Andhra Pradesh High Court administered the oath of office and secrecy to Thakur at a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan here, the official residence of the governor.

Chief Minster YS Rajasekhara Reddy, his cabinet colleagues, state Congress chief K Keseva Rao and senior officials were present.

Shinde, who had taken over as governor in October 2004, had faxed his resignation to President APJ Abdul Kalam from Mumbai Saturday night before reaching New Delhi Sunday to take oath as a central minister.
