This is the second case of lynching in Sundargarh district in less than a week.
Five days ago, Abzal Khan, an alleged molester, was beaten to death near Rourkela by a group of villagers. Before being beaten to death, Abzal was tied to a pole for about an hour and tortured in various ways. Khan’s friend, who was also assaulted, has claimed that the allegations are false and it was actually the outcome of an old enmity.
Last month, a mob tied the hands and legs of four alleged fuel thieves with ropes in Keonjhar district and made them kneel on the road with fuel jars hanging from their necks.
