Over 40 companies, which flocked to the city in search of suitable candidates, offered jobs to more than 500 people. The job fairs have become very popular among the youths these days. Besides offering jobs, the companies tell the youths about various professional courses that can fetch lucrative for the youths.

Talking to HT about the issue, Princi Kapoor, a graduate, says, “Earlier, I used to think if these job fairs could really provide right employment to a right person.
But when I visited one job fair, I came to know that they not only provide jobs but also provide the youths with various information regarding different professional courses which I thought never existed in the city.”

Sneha Gupta, an employee at a Kanpur-based call centre, said, “These job fairs have changed my life altogether. Although I was an undergraduate, I appeared in an interview and got my appointment letter at once on the spot.”

Another young girl, Snigdha Dixit, says, “It provides a platform where we can talk face to face to the higher authority of a company. Otherwise, in any office, the resume of a candidate concerned is received by the gate keeper or by the receptionist.”

Deepti Rajani said, “Even if one does get a job at the job fairs, one comes to know about various job-oriented courses being conducted in the city. Joining such courses adds to his qualification.”

While some of them are happy with the job fairs, there are many who say such job fairs do not provide proper jobs to the youths.

Tarun Sehgal, a bank employee, says, “Even though these expos have been providing jobs to many, but 99 per cent jobs are associated either with call centres or BPOs.”

Garima Kapur, a student of textile designing, says, “The variety of jobs offered at these expos has a very limited scope. Call centre jobs are not considered good by some families. Thus, the candidates are simply left with no choice.”

Reacting to the statement, Gaurav Shukla says, “The most call centres pay a very handsome salary. Besides, the call centre jobs do not require any professional qualification.”All said and done, the city youths hail these job expos and look forward to an opportunity to go to a job fair for a suitable placement.
