Pakistan, Lankan teams to play

INTERNATIONAL TENNIS ball cricket tournament organised by MP Sports Care will begin at the Vaishnav Stadium on May 3. The tournament, which will have participants from Sharjah, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, will conclude on May 14. MP Sports Care secretary Bhagirath Rathore told reporters here that there would be preliminary rounds to qualify for the main draw.

INTERNATIONAL TENNIS ball cricket tournament organised by MP Sports Care will begin at the Vaishnav Stadium on May 3. The tournament, which will have participants from Sharjah, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, will conclude on May 14.
MP Sports Care secretary Bhagirath Rathore told reporters here that there would be preliminary rounds to qualify for the main draw.

He said 16 teams from Indore would be given entry. The winners would get a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up would get Rs 50,000. Team from Sharjah is expected to take part in the tournament this year along with Pakistan and Sri Lanka besides holders Mumbai and teams from Karnataka, Hyderabad, Kolhapur and Punjab apart from Indore, he said.

The organisers are planning to install halogen lights worth Rs.3.5 lakh at the stadium as it is a flood-lit event. Gopal Marwar said that Sahara Samay would telecast all the matches live and the highlights would be shown in national network.

Marwar said that a commentary competition would be held this year during the preliminary and main round matches. There would also be a panel of experts to give analysis of the matches. The winner of the commentary competition would get a cash prize of Rs11000. All the matches would be officiated by qualified umpires of MPCA. There would be no entry fees for the matches. There would be separate cash prize for Indore teams.

The organisers are planning to invite VVIPs to watch the tournament. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is expected to inaugurate the tournament. They are also planning to invite former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, MP Jyotiradiya Scindia, Sports Minister Manishankar Iyer, former test cricketer Navjot Singh Siddu and leading film stars to the tournament.
