An army spokesperson said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in the Balnoi area at 10pm on Thursday. "Pakistani troops opened unprovoked firing with small arms and light and heavy automatic weapons. The firing lasted for more than one hour," he said.

The Indian troops exercised restraint and fired back in a controlled manner. A state of high alert is being maintained along the LoC.
