Frequency of LoC skirmishes has increased during the last few months in Krishnaghat sector since the deployment of the Mahar Regiment replacing the Gorkha Regiment.

The 653 Mujahideen Regiment deployed opposite the Mahars in PoK has been continuously targeting Indian forward posts manned by Mahars and BSF in the area, officials said.

On Sunday, at about 9 am soldiers of the 653 Mujahideen Regiment reportedly fired more than 20 RPG shells towards Indian posts of Ravi, Kranti, Kirpan, Dhip 1,2 3 and Mann, manned by Mahar Regiment, BSF and Gorkha Regiment, respectively.

Sources told HT that Indian troops effectively retaliated.

Constable Ishaq Munshi of 47 BSF received a bullet injury on his hand and was taken to hospital.

On January 16, two groups of intruders aided by Pakistani troops, were forced to retreat by Indian troops in Balakote and Balnoi areas in Mendhar sector of Poonch district.
